A beautiful painting

“One of Norman Rockwell’s most famous paintings was found hidden behind a fake wall in its owner’s home, proving that the version the owner had long displayed was a forgery, family members and experts said.”

I never saw this painting before reading the above linked article, heck, I never heard of that Rockwell painter before. But when I actually saw the painting a few moments ago, it really touched me. It’s not so much the kid and his obviously-enthusiastic-for-going-away look, but that of the father. A father deep in his thoughts and sadness for his soon-to-leave son. It touched me because that’s exactly how my father was sitting, behaving and looked like (including the cigarette!) when I was going away to Corfu in 1991, or when I was leaving for Germany in 1992 to go find work.
