Sanctuary: Failed
It was a nice experiment. But it didn’t work.
The creator of Stargate(s) asked some of his friends (including easily-recognizable actors from Stargate and Atlantis) to put together a new live action series that would sell via the web, Sanctuary. They sell four 17-minute episodes for $10, and so far the first episode was released. The series is pretty cheaply-made (more cheaply than the average cheap Sci-Fi Channel series) and the actors are mostly acting in front of a green screen.
Personally, I don’t think that there’s going to be a second episode. The first episode was uploaded to YouTube already and even as a pirated series it doesn’t make as many waves as it should have. Too bad of course, as Internet is the future for TV too. They are a bit too early, I guess. Or, they should have gone through the iTunes market instead…
Update: My interview with the producer published!

For another take on internet-based shows, have you seen The Prom Queen daily 90-second soap-opera for teens? Good product values (for teens). A modern equivalent of what ten years ago was called (I think) The Spot. Whaddya think of 90-seconds web TV?
Not a bad idea… but judging from the few comments in the forum, this idea didn’t catch on either…
I quite liked it, including the CGI/green screen styling – but then I liked “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow”. It’s more interesting than Stargate to my mind. I watch the U.S. Sci-Fi channel often and feel it’s better than a lot of the content they show.

YouTube seems to have the second “webisode” as well.
It looks like a lame monster movie, but I could be wrong. Oh no, a guy in a rubber suit !
A Dog’s Breakfast, staring “McKay” and “Dr. Carson Beckett,” on the other hand, looks great.
Yeah, apparently they have shot the whole thing back in January and they release 17 minutes webisodes every 2 weeks.
I do find the premise interesting, I might ask the company behind it for an interview for osnews.
“McKay” is on Sanctuary’s first webisode too.
