World’s top maths genius jobless and living with mother

“A maths genius who won fame last week for apparently spurning a million-dollar prize is living with his mother in a humble flat in St Petersburg, co-existing on her £30-a-month pension, because he has been unemployed since December.”
This is just sad. I hope a western institute could take care of his financials for a while and employ him.

I think he has lost all hope… I think his problem is psychological at this point.
of couse it’s psychological, he could have been employed in any job in the world.
generaly speaking, you can’t imagine how many smart people you can find in any low-level bar being drunk every night (and of course being considered by the other people as stupid losers).
Why would he not take the money if he earned it?
Hi,

I learned this lesson the REALLY hard way and now try to teach it to selected friends…who usually are too kind-hearted to understand.
As one says in austria: it always hits the good guys
Gotta go back to tech…really shouldnt write about politics and stuff

Well, he turned down the prize money for the Fields award, and seems likely to turn down the million dollar prize he’ll earn if his proof is fully validated. I think he *wants* to be unemployed.
