Beyond Black Mesa

Beyond Black Mesa is a short fan film inspired by the Half-Life video game. It was shot with a Canon HV20 camcorder, and it’s set to become one of the most-viewed short films shot with this beloved camera. As much as it looks impresive, it’s not the best HVx0 film, in my opinion. Still, great for a $1200 budget.

Another short film that’s making the rounds today is “Lazy Teenage Superheroes“, shot with a Panasonic HVX200 (according to its cinematographer who emailed me with the details). This one cost $300.

Impressive! Although I think it is a lot better than any of those in your top 5. I’ve seen all those before.

I don’t think it’s better than any on the top-5. It has no real plot. It looks like a more visually impressive, because of the effects, version of some short films youngsters make on youtube, which is bam boom, bam boom. Sure, this is supposed to be HalfLife, but still, films always need a plot.

I see what you mean.. But as far as the overall look, the production, action sequences and effects go, I think it would be the best I’ve seen. I’ve never played Half life, so don’t know the story behind it.
