The Walking Dead

The TV cable channel AMC recently broadcasted “The Walking Dead”, a TV show about zombies. I personally dislike zombie stories, they’re just not my cup of coffee. However, I can’t say enough about how well-shot and well-scripted this show is. The show is both episodic and serialized, having an almost perfect balance between the two. And being on cable, it doesn’t have to pay respect to FCC’s censorship, something that makes networked shows feel so formulaic and silly. The quality of AMC’s work is such, that I continued watching all its three episodes so far, even if I have a genuine dislike for zombies. Highly recommended.

Well, I *am* a zombie fan, and I totally agree. While I do find some scenes a bit too graphic (the mere *suggestion* of guts is enough for me – I don’t need to see them in close-up for 15 minutes), the show is wonderfully acted, well-scripted, pacing is excellent, it looks visually stunning, and the music is beautiful. And don’t forget the make-up artist – that guy is a fcuking genius.

I love how someone *finally* took the zombie genre beyond the “omg lets take a shotgun and kill zombies for 90 minutes”-rut it’s been stuck in since day one, and focus on what such an apocalyptic event would do to humans… Especially how Shane vented his frustration by nearly killing the wife-beater with his bare hands – that was intents. Or the reunion between Rick and his wife and son – not the standard Hollywood slo-mo running-towards-each-other, but the more realistic moments of disbelief.

Very, very well done.

Fully agree. My wife and I are hooked. Seeing his hand and the hacksaw right at the end of that last one. “NO WAY!” I’d spend a week trying to cut the pipe before I went for my hand. . . but. . . wow.

Cool!! Andrew Lincoln is an awesome actor.. good pedigree. He’s been in a lot of UK series, including “This life” (which has a massive cult following) and “Afterlife” which is sort of “Medium” or “Ghost Whisperer” on mental Steroids.. (I’m not sure what came first, but I saw Afterlife before the other two..) If you can see either, I’d recommend checking out an episode or two. There’s bits on Youtube if you can be bothered to go that route.
