Shame on Sci-Fi Channel

Shame, shame on Sci-Fi Channel for producing such a laughable mini-series, the “Tin Man“. Sure, the Sci-Fi tele-movies are always low budget and cheap, BUT, there is a big “but”. Every December, when the big networks pause broadcasting of their TV series, Sci-Fi traditionally presents their original mini-series which is produced in the best way is possible — considering their low budget. Series like “Taken”, and “The Lost Room”, were very well done for example.

This year, Sci-Fi Channel decided to shoot the re-imagining of the Wizard of OZ. Let me tell you one thing: this thing SUCKS. It’s just terrible. It’s just BAD. It’s better than their cheap tele-movies, but much, much worse than you would expect from their December special. And it looks like Flash Gordon. Kinda like the same crew and locations were used.

I just came from watching tonight’s episode, actually. All I could think was “the production value of this would triple if they just had some decent, slower more modern camerawork.”

The wipe from the scene with the wicked witch confronting the good witch in her, erm, hangout was just beautiful.

“The miniseries also delivered better ratings than SCI FI’s previous miniseries, including the Emmy-winning Steven Spielberg Presents Taken.” -SciFi.com

…also, I will say I love the story. It’s all very carefully written. It’s just some technical methods that really ruined this movie for me.

The main character’s acting is dreadful, she delivers lines like she still lives in Kansas. The cutting is bad too. When she said “my parents were from here”, it just cuts immediately to something else. We don’t see her expression or her feelings. It’s just sloppy work. The story is not that new either, we’ve seen all it before. I am disappointed with this year’s December Special.

Can you believe Sci-Fi paid $19 million dollars for Tin Man??!

Jeez, really? This is way too much money for this kind of bad quality. I would have thought $3-$5 million for the 6 hours, max. What’s the point of shooting in Canada if it’s going to be so darn expensive, and so “Flash Gordon”-look alike that makes me wanna puke? Most of the color grading sucked, just like in “Flash Gordon”. CG was cheap too.
