Ubuntu delayed – I am somewhat to blame

Ubuntu delayed because of a race condition with NetworkManager that occasionally is not re-connecting ethernet after a laptop wake-up. Sorry guys, but I think I did this to you.

I for one don’t mind at all, and I am an Ubuntu user. Keep finding the bugs and getting them fixed – especially laptop related. Wait! Maybe I should do that too. How does one get started in reporting bugs? Does Ubuntu have a Howto on that? It’s probably time I start doing my part.
Just create an account here and enter a new bug (if it doesn’t exist already). Be descriptive and include debug information, especially if it’s driver/kernel related.
What kind of debugging information can I provide – am I looking for core files? Or console output? Log file outputs? I am a software developer (mostly Windows [.NET, VC] and Java), so I know how important a good bug report is, but I have no experience with this in the Linux world.
Well, if it’s a kernel/driver bug, you offer the dmidecode, dmesg and lspci -vvv outputs. For normal app crashes, BugBuddy should give you the debug info that you can then copy/paste in the bug report. For normal app bugs, you just try to write how to reproduce them.
Thanks, I signed up, and I’ll start actively participating in the Ubuntu community. I’ve contributed to projects financially, but I think it is time I do more. Again, thanks, and hopefully one of the days laptop support will be a given in Linux!
