We had a great evening on Saturday, we had a few friends coming in for dinner (ex-Be/Palm engineers). We had a geek talk about a lot of things it was cool.

Otherwise, we are 2 months without a car now… time flies, but the car is still not fixed!

NeXT update

yup, the new drive works. 🙂
I am up and running with OpenSTEP 4.2.
Read more on my article about it in a week or so, at OSNews.

new hard drive

new hard drive for the NeXTSTATION just came in with the post office. It was not well packed as I would like it to… JBQ is not here yet to move the monitor away (too heavy for me), so I haven’t tried the new hard drive yet. I will keep you posted. 🙂

F*cking NeXT Luck [Cursed]

Good news and terribly bad news.

Good news: The NeXT machine is here (I had to stay out in the road and literally wait for the UPS truck, which was [again] heading for the office instead of the apartment). Anyways, the machine is here now and the driver “heard” it from his manager.

Really bad news: The hard drive is dead (thank the stupid UPS for that!!). I am getting a new one.

Fucking UPS/Fedex

Fucking-fucking-fucking UPS bastards. Fucking retards. I am so fucking pissed off right now.

The NeXT STATION was supposed to be here yesterday already, and they keep updating their web site on my tracking number saying “RECEIVER NOT IN ON 1ST DELIVERY ATTEMPT” for two days now.

I WAS IN ALL DAY WAITING FOR YOU, you incompeted idiots! And yes, my fucking bell works, but you prefer to not ring it??? And yes, I double checked it, the address you have is correct.

I am getting a NeXTSTATION

I am getting a NeXTSTATION Turbo Color 68040 at 33 Mhz! 32 MB RAM, 1 GB hard drive, color monitor 17″, loaded with NeXTSTEP 3.3. And the deal won’t cost more than $330. Cool, huh? I always loved Black Hardware!

We have so much “weird” hardware around here. A BeBox, a Cube, a Pegasos, now a NeXT (and an Atari Falcon in France). All I need now is a good, original Amiga! 😉

Last year I played with some loaned hardware too: an SGI Octane, an SGI Fuel and a Sun SPARC Blade 150. Cool stuff, even if I didn’t get to keep them.

Voodoo5, RIP

It was nice to know you my beloved 3Dfx Voodoo5 64 MB AGP card. You served me well for 2.5 years now! Even if I had to purchase an longer IDE cable because you were so long that the standard IDE cables couldn’t get around you to connect to the drives…

Nevertheless, I decided to retire the Voodoo5 card and revert to a Matrox G400-MAX (dual monitor) 32 MB AGP card because the Voodoo simply can’t handle well the 1600×1200 at 85 Hz. At 75 Hz there is no problem, the card can do it, but at 85 it is really at its limit and you can see blurred fonts and other artifacts. The Matrox cards were always better on 2D, hence the change. Now, I am typing this on a 1600x1200x85Hz crispy clear desktop. 🙂

Sony 21″ is here

Yay!!! The monitor my husband bought for me for my 30th birthday _finally_ arrived!!

It is a 21″ black SONY e-540 CRT monitor, capable of 1600x1200x85 Hz (unusable max is 2048x1536x60Hz). I can’t wait to move to the 1600×1200 resolution, which is the main reason I wanted a new monitor!

I haven’t tried it yet, as I can’t move it by myself… It is huge. 😀

I am waiting for Jean-Baptiste to come from work to help me lift it..

And no, I don’t want an LCD. 😉
